Cooke Aquaculture has been a driving force in the Atlantic Canadian aquaculture industry for over 20 years and has grown to become the largest vertically integrated independent salmon farming company in North America.

1985

Glenn, Michael and Gifford Cooke establish the first marine site at Kelly Cove, New Brunswick.

1989

Purchase of first hatchery at Oak Bay, New Brunswick.

1993

Incorporated Cooke Aquaculture Inc.

1994

Acquired Bay Salmon Processing and Thomaston Corner Hatchery in New Brunswick. Established True North Salmon and begun processing, marketing and distributing salmon under the True North Salmon brand in Eastern Canada and the North Eastern part of the United States. Established GMG Fish Services Ltd. Brought Vaccination services in-house.

1997

Acquired Atlantic Fish Specialties Ltd. in Prince Edward Island to help expand the value added product line.

1998

Acquired Grand Isle Fish Farms Ltd. and Silver Bay Salmon in New Brunswick.

1999

Acquired Saddle Island site in Nova Scotia.

2000

Acquired Horton's Smoked Seafood Ltd. in Maine. Acquired Di-Anna Aqua Inc., Double O Fish Ltd. and Rattling Beach Farm Ltd. in Nova Scotia. Acquired Fairmount & Clarke in Quebec.

2002

Constructed a new building for its GMG division. Acquired Culimer Inc. in Quebec and Allavoix Corp. in Illinois.

2003

Acquired Fundy Salmon Ltd., L&J Salmon Ltd., Silver Hatchery and Jail Island Aquaculture in New Brunswick.

2004

Established Shoreland Transport. Purchased Charlotte Feeds. Moved breeding program in-house under the direction of Stofnfiskur, a commercial stock enhancement and breeding company based in Iceland. Purchased Atlantic Salmon of Maine.

2005

Acquired east coast operations of Heritage Salmon. Acquired East Coast operations of Marine Harvest (formerly Stolt Sea Farm).

2006

Receives Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies award, Entrepreneur of the Year award and is named to Atlantic Progress Magazine's Top 101 Companies.

2007

Begins expansion of Newfoundland and Labrador operations. Acquires former Shur-Gain  Aquaculture feed plant in Truro NS from Nutreco and establishes Northeast Nutrition Inc.

2008

Achieves accredited aquaculture eco-label from Global TRUST Certification Ltd. Acquires Chilean Company, Salmones Cupquelan S.A.

2009

Cooke Aquaculture CEO and co-founder Glenn Cooke inducted into the Junior Achievement New Brunswick Business Hall of Fame.
